Convergence in today’s network is important because it
allows people to share their thoughts, opinions and ideas. It permits every person to have a voice or
say in a topic. Convergence in today’s
network also provides learning from each other without having to research for
information through several texts.
Examples of people sharing their voice are with the use of blogs and
wikis.
A blog is created by one person and can only be written and
edited by that person, while wikis can be written and edited by any person, as stated
in “How to Use Wikis for Business.” In
wikis if a mistake or inaccurate information is written, the error can be
corrected by anyone. In “Brooklyn Blog
Helps Lead to Drug Raid,” collaboration transpires between bloggers while they
are discussing a particular house in the neighborhood and its suspicious
activity. In this incidence bloggers
collaborated and formed a conclusion about multiple incidences that arose at the
house in turn leading to the arrests of several people in the home. Their collaboration brought attention to an
area otherwise overlooked and helped correct an issue that was
transpiring.
A new use for wiki might be using wiki for on sight or hands
on research project where each individual records their findings to the same
wiki page leading to factual findings available for the public to read. This would provide the public with information
based on an actual study.
